Nick Gifford links

Puffin Well, I have to link to Puffin, don't I? They published my first novel, Piggies, in January 2003, and will publish another one a year later.

Penguin Puffin's parent company - includes an interview with me. There's another news story from the East Anglian Daily Times at http://tinyurl.com/ypqqq

infinity plus Online showcase featuring work by some of the biggest names in adult SF, fantasy and horror, plus lots of reviews, author interviews and other features. Oh yes: I write reviews for them and help run the site.

Buying books

If you're able to buy online, then why not take a look at my books at Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com? But you don't need to buy online: my books should be available in any decent bookshop, and if they don't have a particular title in stock just ask and they'll be happy to order copies for you.

Incubus links

Incubus features some rather suspect websites and, of course, you shouldn't normally visit these kinds of sites. However, out of the kindness of my heart (or perhaps because I'm a spoilsport), I've negotiated with the owners of these sites and ensured that they're safe for you to visit.

www.spirit-talking.co.uk is the home of the ouija chatroom which appears in Incubus.

www.hopespringstrust.org.uk is the home of the alternative community where much of the story takes place.

Piggies links

Piggies Describes itself as a site "for all people who simply love pigs. Pigs make wonderful pets, especially Vietnamese Pot Bellied Pigs and Miniature Pigs." The site includes links to pet pig-related information on the web, free pig pictures, graphics, clip art, photos and e-cards, supplies for pot bellied and miniature pigs. What more could you ask for?

The Finnish Minipig Association ...is exactly what it says it is. In Finnish.

Aunt Lynnie's Pig Page She says, "I never realized there were so many cute and cuddly pigs out there..." Yuk!

Here's a site all about Bacon, complete with irritating background music.

Know of any other piggish sites I should link to here? Just mail me the details I'll add some of them here. My e-mail address is nick@nickgifford.co.uk

Some of Nick's favourites

A few of my favourite authors and books:

John Wyndham. I read and re-read most of his books when I was about 12-13: Midwich Cuckoos, The Kraken Wakes, and others. I recently re-read the brilliant The Day of the Triffids and, although it's a little dated (it was first published in 1951) it's still a cracking good read.

John Christopher. This man inspired me to become a writer. I loved his Tripods trilogy when I read it, around the time I was reading Wyndham. Aliens controlling the human population by 'capping' them as teenagers ... a group of children on the run from this ... exciting, scary stuff!

Ursula Le Guin. It's her adult fiction that particularly strikes me these days, but she's also one of the great writers of teen fantasies, with her Earthsea books established as classics. In my mid-teens I read, and was gobsmacked by, The Dispossessed and The Left Hand of Darkness.

The web series. A dozen short science-fiction novels for teenagers, written by some of the leading writers in the newer generation of adult SF authors, including Eric Brown, Stephen Baxter and Pat Cadigan. I reviewed them for infinity plus: there are one or two weaker books here, but it's a fine series.

Julia Green. A new author discovered by my own publishers, Puffin. In 2003 I read an advance copy of her first novel, Blue Moon. It's the story of how fifteen year-old Mia deals with the fact that she's pregnant. It could easily have been dull and worthy but instead is a wonderfully wise and insightful tale. It was published in April 2003 and I'm really looking forward to the sequel.
